ABOUT BEN

My name is Ben Harden and I am 21 years old and I have just completed my third year of studying a Bachelor of Journalism at Griffith University Nathan.

I’m originally from a Far North Queensland country town, called Ravenshoe and I am the youngest of 7. I was born in Mt Isa and my family moved east after I was born, to Ravenshoe. I grew up on biodynamic cattle/produce farm and I graduated from a rural high school, achieving a QCE certificate and an OP.

In high school, I was involved in my schools Cattle leading and cattle judging program. My school had a dairy farm apart of its agricultural program and cattle judging is one of the reasons why I got into public speaking and a passion for agriculture and rural Australia.

I am approachable, able to work in a team and able to effectively execute the duties of the given task. I’m passionate about rural Australia and the agricultural industry and hope in my future to become a rural reporter.

In mid 2019, I was able to do an internship in Toowoomba at the ABC Queensland Country Hour. I shadowed and assisted journalists Amy Phillips and Arlie Felton-Taylor as well as the Executive producer Jodie Gunders. I completed 75 hours of unpaid work with the journalists and traveled daily to Toowoomba from Brisbane, whilst studying full time at Griffith University. I  was able to create and edit radio stories to go to air and also conduct interviews and do field work with them. This was a great learning experience and I was able to effectively add content to my portfolio and also put my foot in the rural journalism industry. You can view my experience at the Queensland Country Hour here.

During my spare time, I'm a contributor writer for a friends new organisation, for which I'm a writer and researcher for her Moyamoya Australia website.

Moyamoya disease is a rare, progressive cerebrovascular disorder caused by blocked arteries at the base of the brain in an area called the basal ganglia.

My role is to investigate and seek out families and people who are diagnosed with the Moyamoya disease who are willing to tell their stories of inspiration and wisdom for those who may be affected in the future or are currently.

I have many past experiences and if you choose to hire me you will not be disappointed. I am a responsible, hardworking young adult who is committed, passionate and an effective communicator.

I am a young adult who always shows initiative and loves country music and passionate about the world we live in.
